DNA-Prokids was set up in 2004 and it serves to assist in reuniting parents with their child via free DNA tests. With widespread cases of child abductions in some of the world’s poorest countries the need for adequate tracking is pressing.
The organisation has experienced a number of successes thus far, reuniting an estimated 550 children with their families with the majority being from Guatemala and Peru, while also preventing more than 200 illegal adoptions. The widespread use of the practice is encouraged by the organization’s founder Dr. Jose A. Lorente, while the medical clinic Victoria TX also recognizes the importance of the practice in helping identify children who have been either abandoned or abducted. The organization also actively promotes more frequent use of DNA testing prior child adoptions to ensure that those giving away the child are in fact the child’s parents.
Dr. Lorente has over 20 years experience working in the area and its importance is being realized on a wider scale now as the number of countries interested in applying his methods is steadily increasing.
